Narrative Story Highlights from 2016

Janine

12 year old Janine is a proud Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander who wants to be a scienteist and explorer. We learn through her rap the importance of her father and Auntie in developing her resilience (Mentor: ACU staff, Janine Quine).

Vijaya

After fleeing from Sri Lanka then India, asylum seeker Vijaya tells of her deep appreciation of the freedom  and safety she, her husband and two children  now have in Australia (Mentor: Community volunteer, Roslyn McMaster)

Imtiaz

Fleeing Pakistan as an unaccompanied minor of  15, Imtiaz shares the beauty of his childhood to the trauma of watching other asylum seekers drown after the boat they were on capsized. Still full of hope, he wants to advocate for all those fleeing their countries (Mentor: ACU staff DR Michele Endicott). 
Narrative Story Highlights from 2015

Sudhesh

At the age of 12, Sudhesh took the harrowing journey by boat from India with his sister and parents.  They were settled in Brisbane in 2013 after spending 2 years in detention centres.  Sudhesh tells the story of how his HipHop dancing has taken him from being "Sudhesh the Refugee" to  "Sudhesh the Dancer".

Nica 

Nica narrates this beautiful heartfelt tale of her fathers journey through Europe as a homeless orphan who came through the war to become a grandfather who dedicated his life giving to others in need.

Dongrin

Originally from Uganda, 11year old Dongrin tells of what it was like coming to Australia and shares his hopes for the future.  With wisdom beyond his years, he offers encouragement to other children who face the challenges of coming to live in a strange land.
